He tweeted: "Stenton David Jones. Born July 10th, exactly six months after his grandad made room for him.  Love you both so."

His middle name David IS in memory of his famous grandfather - whose real name was David Robert Jones - and Stenton IS for David Bowie's own father, Haywood Stenton Jones.

Duncan, whose mother is Angie Bowie, also heaped praise on Rodene saying: "All my love and awe to the incredible @rodeneronquillo who made a human being in her belly. Warrior woman & every day, my hero."

The couple first announced their pregnancy shortly after David's death following a secret cancer battle.

Duncan tweeted: "1 month since dad died today. Made this card for him at Christmas. Due in June. Circle of life. Love you, granddad."

Duncan, 45, is known for directing Moon (2009) and Warcraft (2016) and is David Bowie's eldest child only son.

He has been estranged from his mother Angie since she and David divorced in 1980.

Speaking about his father's death on the Nerdist podcast, Duncan said: "I’m OK, I’m good. I was very fortunate, we got a chance to say our goodbyes.

"It’s a weird one for me, I don’t really know how to talk about it or what to say about it – other than the fact that we got a chance to say our goodbyes.

"Weird things make me miss him, but it’s still early days.

"I’m sure I always will, but it’s tricky. He was a big gravitational pull in my life as far as who I saw myself as. How I separated myself from the world and how I saw myself."
