The film is an adaptation of the Broadway musical of the same name which first hit the stage in 2015.
Evan Hansen is a high school student with social anxiety disorder.
His life is turned upside-down when the therapeutic letterh e has written to himself is stolen by a classmate.
When the classmate dies by suicide, the family mistakes the letter as a suicide letter from their son to Evan.
Evan inserts himself into the boy's past, throwing him into a series of inspiring, duplicitous, and confrontational events.
