Wonder Woman’s Gal Gadot channelled tragic real life princess for superhero role
Actress takes on iconic heroine in standalone DC Comics movie
WONDER Woman star Gal Gadot was inspired by the late Princess Diana when preparing for her superhero role.
The 31-year-old Israeli actress first appeared as the Amazonian warrior princess/Diana Prince in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice earlier this year, and on Saturday, Gal paid a visit to Comic Con in San Diego to discuss next year’s standalone Wonder Woman movie, and made a surprise revelation in the process.
She told the audience: “Wonder Woman has the strength of a goddess and the heart of a human,” before revealing she had watched a documentary on Princess Diana, who tragically passed away in August 1997 in Paris car crash, before filming had began.
She continued: “She said she leads from her heart and not from her head, and I think the same is true of our Diana.”
Gal was joined on stage by director Patty Jenkins, and the women gave the 6,000-strong crowd their first taste of what to expect from the blockbuster with an action-packed trailer.
Patty added: “The world needs love and forgiveness in such a huge way, [Wonder Woman] stands for being loving and amazing and being incredible.”
The trailer starts with Gal’s character finding co-star Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor washed up on a beach.
Stunned, she says: “You’re a man”, to which he replies, “Yeah, do I not look like one?”
Another scene sees Chris’ American pilot character ask Diana about her father, but she responds: “I had no father, I was brought to life by Zeus.”
Taking the information in, the military man replies: “Well that’s neat”.
Fans are given an insight into Wonder Woman’s world on an isolated island before the action moves to a world war, which the superhero is determined to stop.
The Amazonian is soon pictured going over the top and heading into no man’s land with her shield, sword and Lasso of Truth to take on an army, at one point being hit by a barrage of bullets as she stands strong in the mud.
“I can’t let you do this,” Steve says in another scene, as the action scenes continue to flash on screen, but Diana replies: “What I do is not up to you”.
Wonder Woman is due to be released in the UK in June 2017.
