13 actors who transformed into other famous faces – from Helen Mirren as The Queen to Eddie Redmayne as Stephen Hawking
FOR our money, one of the best parts about a star biopic is seeing how the actors transform their looks for a role.
From Jamie Foxx's multiple award-winning Ray Charles to Helen Mirren's iconic portrayal of the queen, these are some of our favourites.
Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth II
Helen Mirren gave probably one of the most memorable performances of the 21st century in The Queen.
Dame Helen played the monarch at one of the toughest times during her reign - just after the death of Princess Diana, when there was a lot of negative feeling about the Royals.
She won an Oscar, a BAFTA, a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors' Guild award for her amazing performance - and the uncanny transformation can't have gone against her either.
Michael Sheen as Tony Blair
Michael Sheen also played a pretty convincing Tony Blair in The Queen opposite Dame Helen Mirren.
Sheen is known for impersonating famous historical figures - another famous portrayal is his role as US journalist David Frost in Frost/Nixon.
Co-star Helen McCrory also did a convincing turn as the Labour Prime Minister's wife, Cherie.
Will Smith as Muhammad Ali
In the 2001 American biopic Ali, Smith took on the role of boxing legend Muhammad Ali, who passed away in 2016.
The film was well-received by critics, with Smith bagging an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
Charlize Theron as Aileen Wuornos
In one of the most stunning transformations of all time, Charlize Theron took on the role of serial killer Aileen Wuornos in the 2003 film Monster.
Wuornos was executed by lethal injection for murdering six men when she was a prostitute.
Theron deservedly won the Academy Award for Best Actress, a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama and the Screen Actors Guild Award for her stunning performance.
Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles
In the 2004 biopic Ray, Jamie Foxx played the legendary rhythm and blues musician Ray Charles.
Foxx received an Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance, as well as the Golden Globe, BAFTA, Screen Actors Guild and Critics' Choice awards.
This made him the second actor to win all five major lead actor awards for the same role and the only one to win the Golden Globe in the Musical or Comedy category, rather than the Drama one.
Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher
The Iron Lady was released in 2011, starring Meryl Streep as Britain's first female prime minister, Margaret Thatcher.
While the film was met with mixed reviews, Streep's performance was thought to be one of the finest of her career.
She scooped the Best Actress gong at the Oscars, the Golden Globes and the BAFTAs.
Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones as Stephen Hawking and Jane Wilde
Eddie Redmayne deservedly scooped his first Oscar for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking.
He and co-star Felicity Jones bore an uncanny resemblance to the physicist and his first wife Jane Wilde in the 2014 flick The Theory of Everything.
Michelle Keegan as Tina Moore
Michelle Keegan pulled out all the stops for her role as footballer Bobby Moore's wife in TV show Tina and Bobby.
The brunette beauty dyed her famous locks bright blonde for the ITV series, a process which took TWO DAYS at a London salon.
Her blonde look baffled fans, but her resemblance to her character after she was snapped in-role alongside her co-star Lorne MacFadyen, who played Bobby, was uncanny.
Cate Blanchett as Bob Dylan
In I'm Not There, a 2007 biographical musical drama film, six actors played the part of Bob Dylan to represent different aspects of his life and music.
Cate had the role of Jude Quinn, who was an embodiment of Dylan in the mid 1960s when he toured the UK with a band and was booed for playing rock music at folk festivals.
Her transformation was quite remarkable.
Bruno Ganz as Adolf Hitler
In another incredible feat of characterisation, Swiss actor Bruno Ganz took on the role of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler in 2004 flick Downfall.
The film depicted the last 10 days of Hitler's rule over Nazi Germany in 1945, though it sparked a debate as to whether the evil warmonger should be allowed to be portrayed 'as a human being'.
Ganz picked up the Goldener Gong, the Jupiter Prize and the Best Actor gong at the Bavarian Film Awards for his performance.
Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs
While Michael Fassbender played the Apple Inc. co-founder in the latest Steve Jobs film, Ashton Kutcher put in a convincing performance as the young entrepreneur in the 2013 flick Jobs.
The film was chosen to close the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, though it's generally regarded as a box office flop.
Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe
Most actors would balk at the thought of taking on an icon like Marilyn Monroe, with such a distinctive look.
But Michelle Williams earned Oscar and BAFTA nominations, and won herself a Golden Globe for Best Actress for her remarkable transformation.
Angela Bassett as Tina Turner
Angela Bassett earned an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Tina Turner in 1993 film What's Love Got To Do With It?
Her emotionally charged portrayal of Tina's relationship with violent husband Ike massive impressed critics.
