Jeff Baena was 47 when he passed away. He was a screenwriter and director who was married to actress Aubrey Plaza, 40.

He was born on June 29, 1977, in Miami, Florida.

His directing credits included Life After Beth (2014) and The Little Hours (2017) — both of which featured Plaza.

He also directed the 2016 comedy Joshy and the 2020 drama Horse Girl.

How did Jeff Baena die?

Emergency services reportedly received a call from Baena's assistant from a house in the Los Angeles area at around 10:30am on January 3.

Baena was pronounced dead at the scene, according to .

Law enforcement reportedly told the outlet that they believe the director died by suicide, but an official cause of death has not yet been released.

Plaza broke the news of their union as they prepared to work together in the feature film Spin Me Round.

She wrote on Instagram: "So proud of my darling husband @jeffbaena for dreaming up another film that takes us to italia to cause some more trouble."

Plaza added: "I think that one of the great things about our careers is that we are forced to be independent, take little breaks, go off and do our things and come back. So it's kind of fun.

"Nothing is ever the same. You don't want to spend too much time apart. But I think that there's a way that it can work and there's a balance in that."
