Viewers of the show already know Abi Branning (Lorna Fitzgerald) contracted the sexually transmitted disease from her boyfriend Ben Mitchell (Harry Reid) before she had a one-night stand with clinically-depressed Lee.

It was all part of her master plan to get pregnant to trap the closeted mechanic, but it all horribly backfired and Ben STILL left her for his gay lover, Paul Coker (Jonny Labey).

Hours before Whitney’s shocking news from her doctor, Lee decides they should get a termination after a chat with pal Martin Fowler (James Bye) as he does not feel ready to be a father.

He plans to tells her over dinner he's just not ready, but his key prop, a leaflet explaining abortion, goes AWOL at the last minute.

In his panic, it emerges his dad, Mick (Danny Dyer) has gotten to it, and has a fatherly chat with his son about how he was nervous at being a young dad, too.

However, Mick doesn't know that Lee had sex with Abi in an alleyway a few months ago.

After his peptalk, Whitney gets the fateful call from the surgery.

If left untreated, chlamydia can lead to stillbirth, miscarriage or other complications, and could pave the way for actress Shona McGarthy's forthcoming exit from the show.

The scenes air on Thursday and Friday (July 28 and 29) on BBC One.
