Soap stars have complained to bosses becayse they are banned from using their roles to cash in on promotions and advertising on social media
THE CAST of Hollyoaks have complained to bosses at after they were banned from using their roles to cash in outside of the Channel 4 soap.
Until this month, stars were allowed to earn money by supporting products or businesses and rake in free perks in return for tweeting thanks.
But chiefs have now decided to reign in their activities and sent around a memo to all cast banning them for tweeting about businesses.
Actors were also warned that their tweets were being monitored.
And stars such as Nikki Sanderson, Ashley Taylor Dawson and Zoe Lucker made their feelings clear in a meeting with bosses this week.
A source said: “This decision has gone down like a lead balloon amongst the cast, and their meeting with the bosses got quite heated.
“Most have no idea why they shouldn’t be able to tweet thanks to a hairdresser who has done their hair for free, or gifted them a meal.
“These are perks they have come to associate with the job.”
A Hollyoaks spokeswoman said a reminder was issued on industry guidelines for advertising on social media and claimed the response in the meeting was positive.
