When did Aaliyah die?
Aaliyah died on August 25, 2001 following an airplane accident in the Bahamas.
The aircraft she was travelling in was badly overloaded and crashed shortly after take-off, killing all nine on board.
The pilot was later found to have traces of cocaine and alcohol in his body, and was not qualified to fly the aircraft designated for the flight.
DMX paid multiple tributes to Aaliyah since her tragic death two decades ago.
In one video, the rapper thanked her for the "priceless" memories they shared before signing off with "I love you and miss you."
Did DMX name his daughter after Aaliyah?
DMX confirmed that he named his daughter after the late R&B star.
After describing the singer as an "angel" he then revealed the ultimate tribute, he had named his daughter after her.
Showing his daughter to fans, DMX said: "This is Aaliyah, that’s how special she was to me."
Speaking directly to his daughter, the New York-based rapper said affectionately: "Know that you’re named after an angel."
