Suicide Squad hoping to break opening records when the star-studded flick hits cinemas next month
The highly anticipated flick is hoping to make £94million ($125million) on its opening weekend
SUICIDE Squad is set to make a projected £94million ($125million) at the US box office on its opening weekend next month.
The highly anticipated flick features a star studded cast including Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie and Cara Delevigne.
According to pre-release tracking, the spin-off - which centres around an elite team of super-villains - should easily break the record for the biggest ever debut for an August release.
With projected figures coming in at a cool $125million, it looks like the comic-book flick will easily beat Guardians of the Galaxy's record of a $94.3million launch.
Warner Bros will likely be breathing a sigh of relief at his news after Batman v Superman failed to excite the critics or the fans.
The much-hyped movie, staring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, took in £660million ($872.7million) worldwide but with a budget of $250million and many millions more spent on promo and advertising, analysts were disappointed it didn't gross $1billion.
However, Suicide Squad has had its fair share of problems with extensive reshoots which an industry insider told Variety was to "fill out the backstories of several characters and to fix some tonal issues."
The spin-off features a number of Bathman adversaries including the Joker, played by Jared Leto, Harley Quinn played by Margot Robbie and Will Smith plays Floyd Lawton aka Deadshot.
Ben Affleck's Batman will also make an appearance as the villains are recruited by a shadowy government agency to pull off a black ops mission.
Task Force X - better known as the Suicide Squad - are offered commuted sentences to return to serve as "deniable assets".
The team operates out of Belle Reve prison under the control of hard-nosed agent Amanda Waller, who keeps the motley crew of villains on a tight leash with remote explosive devices that can be detonated at any time.
The most recent synopsis for the film says that the team finds themselves armed to the teeth and sent to bring down an "enigmatic, insuperable entity" before realising that they have been set up to fail from the beginning.
Jared Leto has been hitting the headlines for his turn as the Joker after he refused to break character during the shoot and played pranks on his co-stars.
He is the first actor to take on the role since Heath Ledger's Oscar winning performance.
Among the crazy things he did on set, Jared sent Margot Robbie a live rat in a box, his co-star Scott Eastwood was too afraid to approach him and he also sent Will Smith some bullets with a letter.
