Harry Potter and the Cursed Child could be heading to the silver screen
Warner Bros have registered a trademark for the title which would include films
HARRY Potter fans have been sent into a tizzy over rumours that J K Rowling's new play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child could be heading to the silver screen.
The eighth official story about the popular wizard is set to open in the West End later this month and rumours are circulating that studio bosses are considering making it into a film.
The new play is set 19 years after the end of The Deathly Hallows and focuses on Harry, Hermione and Ron as adults and their children.
Previews have already been put on and Emma Watson said it was "amazing".
Sparking rumours that the play could be made into a film, Warner Bros has registered a trademark for the title, which includes all merchandise and motion pictures.
However, this is no guarantee that the movie execs are going to adapt the next instalment in the Harry Potter universe as they could be planning on screening a filmed version of the play.
Excited about the prospect of another Harry Potter flick, one fan tweeted: "This would be amazing!"
Another said: "A new movie would be HUGE!"
However, fans won't have too long to wait to get their next Harry Potter fix as Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them, starring Eddie Redmayne, will be released in November.
As well as Eddie, the film which is set in 1920s America stars Colin Farrell, Ron Perlman, Gemma Chan and The Perks of Being a Wallflower actor Ezra Miller.
The story follows New Scamander, played by Oscar winner Eddie, who arrives at the Magical Congress of the United States of America in 1926 for a meeting with an important official.
However, at the meeting is a magically expanding briefcase that holds a number of dangerous creatures.
When the creatures escape, the American wizarding authorities go after Newt as it threatens to strain even further the relations between the magical and non-magical worlds.
