Melanie Hamrick is over three months pregnant with his love child – and the couple are both said to be 'over the moon'
MICK Jagger and Melanie Hamrick are “surprised and happy” at the news of her pregnancy, a source close to the ballerina revealed last night.
The source added: “This is great news. It will be Mick’s eighth child and nothing fazes him. He’s been incredibly supportive.
“She’s very bright, intelligent, sparky and has her own ideas about how she wants to lead her life. She knows what a great relationship Mick has with all of his children and can’t wait for him to be a dad again.
“They are taking the news in their stride.”
Mick, 72, and Melanie, 29, have been in a relationship since 2014 and have seen each other regularly over the past two years.
She was a guest in Rio de Janeiro and Mexico in February and March on the Latin American leg of the Stones’ recent tour that ended with their historic concert in Cuba.
The source said: “They’ve seen each other a lot, they like each other a lot but they still want independent lives.”
A spokesperson confirmed the news last night.
It comes less than two months after Mick’s bandmate Ronnie Wood, 68, welcomed twins.
Melanie will not live in London with Mick — who turns 73 on July 26 — and is instead expected to end her career in ballet to move to either Los Angeles or head home to Connecticut to be near her family.
Our US source explained: “Mick’s relationship with Melanie works for both of them.
“Melanie is very American and doesn’t want to move to London, even though they’ve been seeing each other regularly over a long period of time now.
“Mick likes the arrangement they have and doesn’t want to be in another formal relationship.
“But the most important thing is how much he loves his children and he has great relations with them. He will support and love this child.
“The plan is for Melanie to move out of New York and be based in LA, where Mick spends a lot of time, or Connecticut where she knows people.”
The source added: “In reality Melanie was coming toward the end of her career as a ballet dancer but has now had to give it up even earlier than planned.
“Her friends had already begun to notice she had been acting in a different way and hadn’t been going to certain classes.
“Mick really respects the fact that she has always been very low key and discreet about their relationship.
“There’s trust there.
“She has told her bosses and they understood.
“She has always been a maternal person and can’t wait for the next chapter of her life as a mum. Melanie is very excited to become a mum and thinks Mick is the most amazing man she’s ever met.”
Mick and Melanie’s 43-year age difference shocked many when The Sun revealed their secret relationship in 2014.
They kept in touch after meeting at a Rolling Stones concert in February of that year.
Melanie reached out after the tragic death of L’Wren Scott, Mick’s partner of 13 years, and their relationship developed.
They were pictured at the time cuddled up on the penthouse balcony of Mick’s luxury Zurich hotel.
Friends said she put a smile back on his face after months of mourning L’Wren. Melanie is one of the top ballet dancers in the US and was engaged to Cuban classical dancer José Manuel Carreño up until early 2014.
The glamorous pair were among the star couples on the US dance circuit, often attending society parties.
The ballerina is originally from Williamsburg, Virginia, and trained at the Eastern Virginia School for the Performing Arts before spending five years at the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington DC.
Unlike former hell-raiser Mick, Melanie previously revealed she is not interested in leading a wild lifestyle.
She said: “Offstage I like to read. On breaks, I usually go to (American bookshop) Barnes & Noble.”
The Rolling Stones have 18 children between the four of them, ranging from one month to 48 years old.
Charlie Watts has one, Ronnie Wood has six, Mick has seven and Keith Richards four.
Keith also tragically lost his daughter Tara to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome in 1976 when she was ten.

In 1999 he had a love child, Lucas, 17, after an affair with Brazilian model and TV host Luciana Gimenez, 46.
His infidelity resulted in the end of his relationship with Hall.
Earlier this year Gimenez described him as a “wonderful dad” and added: “I like to raise my child with his dad, with his help and advice. He’s a very wise man and he is passionate about his kids.”
Mick has only been married once, to Bianca Jagger (formerly Dee Macias) in 1971, but she filed for divorce seven years later citing his adultery as the reason.
He also wed Jerry Hall in private ceremony in Bali but it was later declared unlawful by the High Court of England and Wales.
