New Gervais track from Life On The Road movie fails to reach Top 200
In one prophetic episode of The Office, David Brent funds his own single and sells just 150 copies
LIFE is imitating art for RICKY GERVAIS and his alter ego David Brent.
In one episode of sitcom The Office the hapless paper merchant told how he funded his own single, only for it to sell just 150 copies and miss out on the charts.
Now I hear the same thing has happened for real, as Ricky’s new track under the guise of his comic character has been a huge flop.
Life On The Road, billed as the first official single from the forthcoming movie of the same name, has failed to reach the Top 200 following its release last week, selling fewer than 1,700 copies.
It’s not great news for Ricky ahead of the film’s release next month. He regularly describes himself as a “frustrated, failed musician” after his fleeting pop career with duo SEONA DANCING in the Eighties.
But there is a silver lining, as tickets to see Brent live have been a hot seller.
The DAVID BRENT & FOREGONE CONCLUSION gigs at London’s Eventim Apollo in September, when Ricky will perform with his spoof band, are officially one of the quickest sell-out concerts of the year.
Don’t write him off just yet.
A poor Example
EXAMPLE has finished his long-awaited comeback album – but it might never see the light of day.
He said: “I could put the album out tomorrow, but I’m part of a label saying, ‘No one wants an album from you’.”
Example, pictured, who was part of the Nando’s Music Exchange at London’s Roundhouse last night, added: “The album’s dead. You can have millions of streams of a single but you can release an album and only get 10,000 copies.”
