Jonas Brothers reunion axed after Nick decides to relaunch his solo career
THE JONAS BROTHERS made a song and dance out of their reunion in 2019, but now it’s ended without a whimper.
I’m told Nick, Joe and Kevin have decided to shelve a new album, despite the fact that it was finished last year.
At the weekend Nick announced he will instead relaunch his solo career, while Joe is returning to acting — putting paid to the band for now.
A music insider said: “The Jonas Brothers’ reunion is effectively over for now. They had an album ready to go and were about to announce it last March but then the pandemic happened and everything was postponed.
“Since then they’ve all been working on their own projects and they feel like they’ve moved on from that music.
“There’s been no big falling out this time, but realistically it will be a while before they do music as a trio again.”
In 2019 the brothers’ comeback album, Happiness Begins, reached No2 in the UK and they went on a world tour, having split up six years earlier after a series of rows.
Then last February, Nick said: “We have been back in the studio with Ryan Tedder, working hard on the new record, which is going to be announced in the next couple of weeks — title, tracklist, all that.”
Although a new album was made available to pre-order on the brothers’ website, it has now been removed. Their last single together was I Need You Christmas, released last October.
A month earlier I told how they had binned the release of their memoir, Blood, after a series of delays.
Now Joe, whose wife Sophie Turner gave birth to their daughter Willa in July, is returning to acting and has been cast in Korean War movie Devotion, which he is currently filming.
On Instagram, Nick shared the muscular photo shown left to announce his single, Spaceman, out this Thursday.
With that spelling an end to his band for now, it better be out of this world.
S Club 8 in dark at new release
Every noughties pop group and their dog seem to have made a comeback in the last few years, but the return of S Club Juniors has come as a massive shock – including to the band themselves.
A brand new track called Boys & Girls was recorded two decades ago and never released, but has mysteriously appeared on Apple Music and .
The band had no idea it was happening.
Confused band member-turned theatre star Jay Perry wrote on Instagram: “What?! Who’s done this?!”
The Saturdays stars Rochelle Humes and Frankie Bridge started their musical careers in the group – later renamed S Club 8 – alongside Jay, Aaron Renfree, Daisy Evans, Hannah Richings and Stacey McClean.
The release is believed to have come from their former record label Polydor to celebrate 20 years since the group formed.
Martin: Still sad over Spandau
Martin Kemp finally wants the truth to be said about Spandau Ballet’s bitter break-up.
The star confessed that relationships between band members were so damaged by the dramatic exit of frontman Tony Hadley in 2017 that they no longer speak – despite Martin claiming back in November there is “no beef” between them.
Martin said: “I have regrets about the way we ended up, the way even today we don’t all really speak to each other, which I think is really sad. My regrets are more about our friendship than they are about the band.”
Seemingly accepting blame for the fallout, Martin continued: “What I miss about it the most are having my mates. The way I treated my mates over the years – and recently, to end up losing most of them, I regret that incredibly.”
The Eighties icons have never revealed the exact cause of Tony’s dramatic departure, with the I’m a Celeb star only hinting: “You don’t leave a band like Spandau Ballet because someone puts two sugars in your tea instead of one.”
Martin also suggested a seismic event, telling The Greatest Music of All Time podcast: “Something happened along the way and it’s very difficult to make out it never happened.”
I revealed that Martin’s brother and bandmate Gary Kemp has signed a solo deal and will release a new album in June.
At this rate, I’d give better odds on Oasis reuniting.
Gwyneth masks up
Gwyneth Paltrow has been mocked for claiming she started the “trend” of wearing face masks – when it is, of course, a precaution against Covid.
In a new interview, she was asked about a photo she had posted wearing one last February, a month before the UK and USA went into lockdown.
She said: “It’s a familiar pattern in my life. I do something early, everyone is like, ‘What is she doing? She’s crazy.’ And then it’s adopted by culture.”
One Twitter user responded: “Gwyneth, Asians wore masks since the 90s. It’s our culture.”
Put a ring on it
Khloe Kardashian has confirmed she is engaged to basketball player Tristan Thompson, two years after they split due to his alleged infidelity.
She shared a snap of her ring on Instagram last night.
A fan commented, “Are they?” to which Khloe replied: “Yep! They are!”
Rita flora blooms in Oz
No wonder Rita Ora has such a big grin on her face – she’s escaped gloomy Britain for summery Australia.
She posed in a floral dress ahead of temperatures reaching a scorching 27 degrees in Sydney today.
Rita’s there to be a coach on The Voice Australia, six years after appearing on the British version.
But she’s also been busy with music following the release of her EP, Bang, with DJ Imanbek.
Speaking about the release, she said: “I can’t really remember a time when I was able to breathe and challenge myself artistically.
“With this project, I felt in control and creative in a way I’ve never felt before.
