Kate Garraway says facing fears in I’m A Celeb jungle ‘prepared her’ to ‘get through’ Derek Draper’s coronavirus battle
KATE Garraway says facing her fears in the I’m A Celebrity jungle ‘prepared her’ to ‘get through’ husband Derek Draper’s coronavirus battle.
The Good Morning Britain presenter's beloved spouse has been in hospital battling Covid-19 since March last year.
While Derek, 53, no longer has Covid, the disease has left him suffering from a range of health problems including diabetes and holes in his heart and lungs and he still hasn't fully regained consciousness.
The last year has been tough for Kate, also 53, and the couple's two children Darcey, 14 and William, 11, but the TV star has now revealed how her time on I'm a Celebrity prepared her for the events of the last year in some ways.
Speaking to , Kate said: "Forcing myself to do frightening things in the jungle was definitely good for my soul, and it made me believe I could do things I never dreamed possible.
"And flippin' heck! I've had to put that knowledge into practice, haven't I?
"So actually, maybe the jungle prepared me for getting through this."
As well as helping her face her fears, Kate also credits the jungle with helping her stay healthy.
She explained: "The last thing Darcey, Billy or Derek is me getting sick.
"I'm not doing as much exercise as I'd like, but I'm trying to eat well, take vitamins, and strange as it sounds, I drink a lot of hot water.
"I started drinking it when I was in I'm a Celebrity because I wasn't allowed tea, and it makes a big difference to how I feel."
Kate took part in the 2019 series of I'm a Celebrity, and finished in fourth place, with Derek there to meet her when she left, just months before his coronavirus battle began.
