Bucks Fizz’s Cheryl Baker reveals she’s ‘totally broke’ and can’t pay tax as she hasn’t earned any money since October
BUCKS Fizz star Cheryl Baker has revealed that she is “totally broke” and can’t pay tax because she hasn’t earned any money since October.
The 66-year-old singer admitted that she has been heavily impacted by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which cancelled most of her work commitments.
The Eurovision winner and her Bucks Fizz bandmates Jay Aston and Mike Nolan now perform under new name The Fizz, but had to postpone their tour last year due to Covid.
Cheryl has now said she’s only earned money from one live-streamed show in October since the first lockdown, and she currently has nothing.
She shared: “We had one virtual gig and that was our only income, it’s been ridiculously hard.
“I owe lots of tax, I physically haven’t got the money to pay anybody back because I’m broke.”
Cheryl added to : “I owe lots of tax and VAT because I had a great year three years ago.
“But because I had that great year, I now can’t claim anything from the government. So, I’ve had to ring the VAT and tax people and say, ‘You’re going to have to put it on hold.'”
Cheryl’s bandmate Jay, 59, has also felt the impact of the pandemic – recently revealing that she is battling Covid.
The star has been keeping fans updated via social media, admitting that “progress is slow” – and her having asthma has made the coughing worse.
Jay had spent most of 2020 shielding as she’d battled mouth cancer in 2018, but told fans this month: “Full of Covid… Thanks China or maybe Morrison’s.
“We’ve been so careful but it’s a Trojan horse. Sanitize the sanitizer all!”
