Kate Garraway writing raw and emotional book about husband Derek Draper’s coronavirus battle called Power Of Hope

I CAN’T begin to imagine the ordeal Kate Garraway has gone through in the past year, with her husband Derek Draper being one of the most high-profile coronavirus cases in the UK.

But the Good Morn­ing Britain host is going to share her family’s anguish in a moving new book, The Power of Hope.

Psychotherapist and author Derek has been in hospital since March and is still ­seriously ill.

In the book, being published by Transworld, Kate will write about the devastating impact Covid continues to have on him and their two kids Billy and Darcey.

Kate said: “This virus has impacted every single one of us.

"By telling the story of Derek’s illness and how it has altered our lives, I hope to be able to reach out to others who are suffering.

“If writing about my experience of facing fear, coping day to day with an uncertain future and finding streng­th for the sake of my kids can in some way help another who is feeling lost or in despair, it will mean a lot.”

The GMB star has been giving fans regular updates on how Derek is doing.

On January 7, 2021 Kate returned to GMB and revealed her kids saw their sick dad for the first time since March 2020 over Christmas.

The presenter said there was a "lovely moment" when her daughter Darcey, 14, and son Billy, 11, were given the chance to see their beloved dad.

He still remains in intensive care and is the country’s longest-fighting Covid-19 patient.

Derek has also lost eight stone and Kate admitted her sadness at seeing how much he has changed.
