Top Gun star Tom Cruise stuns locals by landing his helicopter on suburban cricket pitch
The Hollywood superstar made an unexpected landing in a London suburb
TOM Cruise delighted fans in a leafy London suburb after he landed his private helicopter in a local cricket club.
The Hollywood superstar was spotted landing his helicopter at Old Rutlishians Cricket Club in Merton Park on Thursday.
It is thought that the actor landed in the venue due to its proximity to The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club where Wimbledon Championships are being held.
A quick fan managed to capture a shot of the 53-year-old actor greeting well-wishers at the grounds before presumably heading off to enjoy the tennis tournament.
The sports club’s Twitter account shared the snap and wrote: “Lets hope this coming season isn’t a mission impossible. Mr Top Gun himself dropped by poplar road. @TomCruise” (sic)
Tom is said to have arrived at the sports ground at around 10am while some reports suggest that he was whisked away in a BMW to continue filming scenes for his upcoming film, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.
Bewildered fans took to Twitter to share the sighting as one asked: "Why is Tom Cruise in Morden??"
Another wrote: "Haha as if Tom Cruise was at my football club... #Imtheonlytopguntheremate?"
One Twitter user added: "Tom Cruise just landed by helicopter in a park close to my house."
