Simon Webbe leaves Celebrity Masterchef after serving crackers from a packet and below-par curry
The boyband star failed to impress judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode
SIMON Webbe dished up crackers straight from the packet and a Caribbean curry lacking heat in a dinner disaster which saw him booted out of Celebrity Masterchef.
The former singer impressed on-paper with his starter of salt fish with celery, onion and peppers - yet the trio of pale savoury biscuits whipped straight off the supermarket shelf spoiled the image as judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace were left ruing a lack of taste.
John said: "You need more heat - you can be more bold," as he munched on the lacklustre opener.
Fans were quick to pick up on the hunk's reliance on Jacob's-style snack and took to Twitter to poke fun at his meal.
One wrote: Simon off of Blue on Celebrity Masterchef serving cream crackers with his starter genius," while another added: "Celebrity Masterchef. Lol Akee and Saltfish with crackers. Hmm interesting."
One quipped: "Simon Webbe has just served up Cream crackers from a packet on Masterchef. Howay man!" while another funny girl added: "Sponsorship deal from Jacobs for Simon from Blue."
It was the same for the Blue star's main dish of Caribbean mutton curry with rice and peas.
This time bald-headed Gregg was the one left less than impressed and said: "Simon's taken the fire and sunshine of the Caribbean and delivered a grey London.
"The curry should have been vibrant - it wasn't."
He added: "Again like I wanted chilli I want some more heat.
"I think we are lacking a little bit of flavour.”
It was between Simon and fellow singer, ex Sugababes star Amelle Berrabah as to who got the axe in the third show.
Speaking about his departure, Simon said: “Good luck guys.
"I am sad on the one side because I will never do this again.
“I wish I had of gone on and learned a lot more, but sometimes you can’t always be a winner."
He added: "I've learned a lot about myself
"I like to dive in and get on with it - that might have been my mistake this time around."
Fans again took to Twitter after his departure.
One referenced his former boyband, writing: "Bet Simon is feeling pretty "Blue" now..."
Meanwhile, the judges labelled Neil Back and Richard Coles as the best cooks on tonight's show.
Gregg said: “The best cooks are Neil Back and Richard … I could find very little wrong with Neil Back’s food."
Celebrity Masterchef' will continue to run over a six-week period and will air on BBC One at 8pm.
