STRICTLY chiefs have rewarded their professional dancers with new annual contracts for their work in the pandemic.

The BBC1 dance show was able to go ahead because the pros lived apart from their families and partners for up to four months.

The cast selflessly formed bubbles with their paired celebrities for the duration.

Now they have all been offered the chance to return later this year — including those who were not given a partner such as Neil Jones, 38, and Nadiya Bychkova, 31.

Katya Jones, 31, will also be back, after making history as part of the first same-sex couple, with boxer Nicola Adams, 38, before being forced to pull out of the series when she caught Covid.

A telly source said: “Bosses rewarded them for their commitment and hard work in ensuring the show was able to go ahead.

“They are well aware that without the willingness of the pro dancers to put their lives on hold, Strictly would not have gone ahead.

";So they have rewarded every one of the dancers with a contract each for the next series.

“The details of the deals will be hammered out in the next few weeks, but the pro dancers have been able to enjoy Christmas safe in the knowledge that they have kept their jobs for another year.”

Previously some dancers quibbled about their pay — around £50,000 per series — regardless of how many years they have been on the BBC1 show.

Axed dancer Brendan Cole, 42, said previously: “My money from Strictly just about pays the bills. I don’t have a car but I would like to get one.”

Judges, Shirley Ballas, 59, Craig Revel Horwood, 55, Bruno Tonioli, 65, and Motsi Mabuse, 39, pocket between £150,000 and £250,000.
