Her show friend Lottie Bedlow is among those helping her get through what will now be a lonely Christmas.

She wrote: "Getting Covid right before Christmas is a ball ache, but having friends like @lottiegotcake makes it infinitely better. Thank you lover."

Laura then praised another pal Lauren for running errands for her and getting her treats while she was at it.

"Big shout out to this queen too for bringing me shopping, snot drops, flowers and chocs. @thelaurensmithy you are the best," she wrote.

Last month Laura revealed she almost never applied for Bake Off because of mental health issues.

The digital manager was diagnosed with general anxiety disorder seven years ago and has been on medication for the past five.

And she feared how social media trolls would deal with a “bigger girl”.

Finalist Laura, of Gravesend, Kent, said her worst moment on the show was her Freddie Mercury cake.

She said: “Obviously, at the time, I was distraught. I’d perfected Freddie.

“I’d done him six or seven times, and I’d got it perfect. Then, on the day, everything went wrong.

“They didn’t show it on TV, but I went outside and just sobbed.

“I thought I was out of the competition on week one. It seemed a disaster.”

This year's series winner was 20-year-old Edinburgh student Peter Sawkins.
