Corrie’s Paula Lane reveals why she’s quitting the show for motherhood
Actress has played Kylie Platt on the ITV soap for six years
CORONATION Street's Paula Lane has decided to make a "clean break" from acting so she can focus on motherhood.
The 30-year-old actress has played Kylie Platt in the ITV soap for the last six years, but announced her departure from the Cobbles in February after falling pregnant with her second child.
Paula is expecting a little girl with husband Tom Shaw, and revealed to that she wanted to take a complete break from acting for a while to focus on her family.
She said: "I think it’s got to be a clean break, I don’t think I’m going to take anything.
"I have to put Kylie in a box, literally. I think that’s the healthiest option."
Paula and Tom also have 18-month-old son Arthur together, with the star returning to Weatherfield when he was just 11 weeks old.
With hindsight, Paula thinks that was too soon, and is another reason she wants to take more time with her daughter once she arrives in July.
She explained: "I feel like I’ve got to nurture this new baby. Arthur only had 11 weeks with me before I went back to work. I’ve done six years of solid work so I think I owe it to myself to have a natural break."
Paula plans to start looking for acting work in the new year, despite already having some offers on the table.
She added: "There have been a couple of offers of work already, but I feel like it’s too soon.
"If anything amazing comes up I’d have to take another look at my plan."
Paula has already filmed her final scenes on Coronation Street, with fans eagerly waiting to see if her alter ego is finally brought to justice for killing former flame Callum Logan in the soap's live episode last year.
Paula shared a sombre snap of her on her final day of filming, walking down the famous cobbles alongside the caption: "That's all folks! x"
While the star is sad to leave behind her TV family, her co-stars made sure to give her a big send off, throwing a leaving party, with photographs appearing in the magazine's latest issue.
In one shot, Paula can be seen posing with Jane Danson - who plays Leanne Battersby - and Catherine Tyldesley - who plays her best friend Eva Price.
The mum-to-be looks a world away from her on-screen character, swapping her leggings, vest top and oversized earrings for an elegant grey floral maxi dress and natural make up.
