Eamonn Holmes says he’s ‘getting on with his life’ in emotional video after being axed from This Morning
EAMONN Holmes has posted an emotional message to fans from the home he shares with wife Ruth Langsford after bowing out on This Morning.
The 61-year-old star said they were "getting on with our lives" after The Sun revealed he'd told friends he was sick of "office politics".
Eamonn and Ruth are being replaced by two younger presenters, Alison Hammond, 45, and Dermot O'Leary, 47, from January 8.
Posting from his lounge today looking relaxed in a black T-shirt and without the glasses he has had to wear all week because of a stye, he paid tribute to his fans.
Eamonn said: "Hello everyone - I just wanted to say something to you from the bottom of my heart.
"Ruth and I have been overwhelmed yesterday and today by the amount of messages - and we'll be replying via social media, by emails, by texts, by Whatsapp, whatever way we can.
"But can I just generally say thank you, thank you, thank you. We do feel the love, really appreciate it but stop it, stop it now.
"It's Christmas time, mistletoe and wine. We've all got things to do, so thank you. Get on with your lives - we certainly intend to get on with ours.
"Look, things are looking up. My stye is nearly gone, the sun is shining and I just want to say to all of you.
"Have a very merry Christmas and please stay safe. Thank you very, very much all of you."
He captioned the post: "Your messages are the best Christmas presents Ruth and I could have wished for.
"From the bottom of our Hearts. Thank you, Thank you."
Yesterday, Eamonn was in a more bullish mood, referencing the fact they were getting axed in an extraordinary outburst on air.
He said to Ruth, who spoke about sellers struggling to "get rid" of Christmas trees: "I would say so, darling. That's the obvious conclusion.
"Which is why they're getting rid of us on a Friday now - after all this sort of chat."
Many viewers applauded Eamonn for having his say on air, with one tweeting: "Well done for getting the Friday morning comment in, I’m still bloody fuming."
Another tweeted: "Eamon firing shots on #thismorning Things you love to see. 🤣."
