PHILLIP Schofield made a sly dig about Kay Burley on This Morning after the Sky News star's rule-breaking birthday bash.

It came as the show previewed a phone-in with The Sun's Deidre Sanders on people who were breaking coronavirus rules to throw a festive party.

During a discussion about someone who invited 16 people for a party, Phillip asked: 'It's not Kay Burley is it?'

Phillip, 58, asked: "Someone's told you that they've got 16 people coming round? It's not Kay Burley is it?"

Holly Willoughby, 39, gave him a disapproving look but was unable to stifle a giggle.

Kay and three other Sky News staff have been taken off air for celebrating her 60th birthday in defiance of Tier 2 rules in place in London.

It comes as the news channel's longstanding presenter Adam Boulton retweeted a furious message from a viewer branding them "morons".

The Sun revealed yesterday that Kay had been removed from Sky's coverage of the first Covid-19 vaccination in Coventry.

Political editor Beth Rigby, 44, has also been taken off air along with North of England correspondent Inzaman Rashid and presenter Sam Washington while the company launches an internal investigation.

The group partied in a group of around nine at swanky private members' club Century Club in Soho, London, against the rule of six.

A group then carried onto a private restaurant, Folie, before four allegedly went back to Kay’s home in West London.

Adam Boulton, who has worked with Kay since 1989, retweeted a message from a viewer that read: "Look at the state of Sky News.

"The morons spent all summer preaching to us and now look at them! After illegally going on a bender, they were going to go to a hospital to put lives at risk!"

Allowing people from other households inside your home and socialising in groups of more than six - even outdoors - is not allowed under Tier 2 rules.

On Monday night Kay tried to play down the rule breach, and claimed she only entered Folie to use the toilet.

She tweeted: "Evening everyone. I want to apologise to you all for an error of judgement.

"On Saturday night I was enjoying my 60th birthday at a Covid compliant restaurant. I am embarrassed to say that later in the evening I inadvertently broke the rules.

"I had been waiting for a taxi at 11pm to get home. Desperate for the loo I briefly popped into another restaurant to spend a penny."

She has not been not on air for her usual morning slot on Sky News, being replaced by Sarah Hewson.
