Brit Award winner Mabel reveals ex confronted her about hit Don’t Call Me Up
BRIT Award winner Mabel has revealed her ex confronted her about her hit Don't Call Me Up after realising it was about him.
Her 2019 hit was about having her heart broken by a former boyfriend and Mabel, 24, has admitted the lyrics were "savage".
The singer – who croons "I'm on a high and you're alone going out of your mind" on the track – told : "I’m quite savage with my songwriting about people.
"I’m just like, you’ve made your bed, you have to lie in it. If you’re dating me and you do something wrong I’m probably going to write a song about it and the whole world would know.
"I don’t think I’ve ever gone back to someone and said, 'This song was about you', but someone has asked me before, 'Was this song about me?' and I was like, 'Yeah, thanks'. Don’t Call Me Up, thanks! It was my biggest song."
The pop and R&B star – who is taking part in the – scooped the 2020 Brit Award for Best Female Artist.
The daughter of 1990s singer Neneh Cherry, she released the song Boyfriend in February, having said last year: “I love writing about love.
"So some time soon a new relationship would be great for some inspiration for my next album.
“But there is no time to even meet people. I’m super-focused right now on what it is that I want, and it (a relationship) is distracting.
