Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford take a swipe at This Morning ‘axing’ as they make a dig about ‘frosty atmosphere’

EAMONN Holmes and Ruth Langsford took a swipe at their This Morning axing on Fridays as they returned for one of their final shows.

The presenters seemed to subtly hint at the drama surrounding them, after it was revealed they're being replaced by Alison Hammon and Dermot O'Leary.

Using the winter weather to make a point about a cool atmosphere on set, Eamonn said: "Good morning, it's Eamonn and Ruth and a chilly morning it was today."

Ruth then added: "Frost."

Eamonn went on: "Jack Frost had already been there when I poked my nose out this morning."

His wife continued: "It was very frosty, wasn't it?"

The presenters, both 60, said their car had been covered in a thin layer of snow, with Ruth calling it "pretty but nippy."

The prolonged weather exchange finished with Eamonn saying: "You have this habit of when we get up in the morning you open all the doors and windows, it was pure freezing." 

Fans have been in uproar about the change in schedule which sees Eamonn and Ruth kicked off their usual spot.

The long-serving pair are reportedly furious about the decision to be replaced on Fridays.

Alison and Dermot previously impressed bosses when they hosted the show together over the summer, with producers keen to add more diversity to their line-up.

Now Ruth and Eamonn will only host the main show in the six-week summer holidays when Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby are away.

A TV insider previously told The Sun that Eamonn feared he was "too pale, stale and male" to remain a regular face on This Morning for much longer.

They explained: "Eamonn and Ruth are incredibly popular with viewers and loved across the board.
