Coleen Rooney takes aim at Rebekah Vardy ahead of Wagatha Christie libel battle
COLEEN Rooney took a swipe at Becky Vardy as they prepared for the Wagatha Christie battle.
The wife of Wayne, in a barbed jab at her opponent, said it remained “a matter of regret” the fallout between the footballers’ wives had escalated.
Her spokesman, on the eve of the first hearing at London’s High Court, insisted: “Coleen remains entirely confident.”
A statement said: “Tomorrow’s hearing is part of the legal preliminaries to the main court case which will take place at a date to be determined, probably next year.
“Coleen’s defence is already filed and in the public domain. It sets out the facts of her case and will be the same whatever is decided tomorrow.
“Given those facts, Coleen remains entirely confident in her position as she has been throughout.
“It is still a matter of regret to her that the matter has been allowed by the other party to get this far.”
Lawyers for the 34-year-old say she has repeatedly offered to meet Becky, 38, to settle their differences over claims her rival leaked stories to the Press.
A mediation attempt was made earlier this year but talks broke down.
And today lawyers for the pair will lock horns before Meghan Markle’s privacy case judge, Mr Justice Mark Warby.
He will decide the meaning of Coleen’s post detailing her detective work to expose who was divulging information.
The judge will outline what Coleen must prove to successfully defend the libel lawsuit of Becky, wife of Leicester and England’s Jamie Vardy, 33.
Lawyers for the mum of five will say the message pointed the finger directly at her.
But Coleen will claim she had “reasonable grounds” to suspect Becky leaked personal details directly or indirectly via others.
She describes Becky as having an “established history and habitual practice of providing information to journalists”.
The row erupted last October when Coleen said on social media she investigated after stories were being leaked.
