The actor will always be best known for starring alongside Dame Judi Dench in As Time Goes By.

Who was Geoffrey Palmer?

Geoffrey was born in London in 1927, and served in the Royal Marines.

He trained as an accountant but his girlfriend convinced him to sign up for a dramatic society.

Geoffrey’s first role on television was as part of the ITV series The Army Game.

He was awarded an OBE in 2004 for his services to drama.

He is survived by his wife Sally Greene and their children Harriet and Charles.

It was revealed the actor passed away on November 6, 2020.

Geoffrey appeared on Doctor Who three times, in 1970, 1972 and in 2007.

His role as Jimmy Anderson in the sitcom The Fall And Rise of Reginald Perrin on the BBC brought him widepsread recognition.

He then was well known for starring in 80s show Butterflies and 90s sitcom As Time Goes By.

In the Fawlty Towers episode ‘The Kipper’ Palmer played Dr Price alongside John Cleese, and he appeared as Lionel Hardcastle in As Time Goes By opposite Dame Judi Dench.

Geoffrey also featured in the movies A Fish Called Wanda, The Madness Of King George, Clockwise and James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies.

He voiced the phrase “Vorsprung durch Technik” in popular TV ads for Audi cars.

As Time Goes By was one of the BBC’s most successful sitcoms.

The show, which followed two former lovers who meet unexpectedly and later get married, ran for nine series and three specials between 1992 and 2005.

Geoffrey played Lionel Hardcastle and Judi Dench played his wife Jean.
