Eddie Redmayne becomes a dad as wife Hannah Bagshawe gives birth to baby girl
The couple named their tot, who was born on Wednesday, Iris Mary
EDDIE Redmayne is celebrating his first official Father’s Day after welcoming a baby girl with wife Hannah Bagshawe.
The proud parents have christened their first child Iris Mary Redmayne, after she arrived into the world on Wednesday.
The couple's spokeswoman confirmed the news to The Sun earlier today saying: "Yes, I can confirm it's true."
The Sun revealed the happy news the couple were expecting in December – a year after they wed in secret in a Winter Wonderland wedding in Somerset.
It’s been a busy time for the 34-year-old Oscar winner, who was also this week revealed as the new face of Prada
Speaking about his impending fatherhood in March, Eddie confessed he was nervous about stepping up the role.
He said: “It’s our first child, so obviously there’s a mixture of emotions.
“Joy, excitement and a bit of fear. I can’t wait. I’ll be a hands-on dad.”
He said the pregnancy had been the perfect ending to an amazing year.
He added: “I still pinch myself - every actor thinks about living the Hollywood dream and making it over here is incredible.
“I’ll always stay grounded and I don’t take anything for granted.”
Eddie has enjoyed a life-changing couple of years, marrying publicist Hannah, 33, two months before winning his first Oscar in 2015 for Best Actor for his portrayal of Professor Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.
The pair met while Eddie attended Eton College, the same year as Prince William, and met Hannah at a neighbouring boarding school for girls.
She and her classmates had scheduled a fashion show for charity, and Eddie volunteered to walk the runway - topless.
They began a 12-year-long friendship but that eventually turned to love in 2012 when the loved-up actor invited her on a trip to Florence during downtime from shooting for Les Miserables.
They wed in an intimate ceremony at a historical manor house on December 15 two years later.
Eddie said of the ceremony: “It was the most wonderful thing. We had Christmas off and so we had a Christmas wedding. It had been a few months of travelling promoting the Theory of Everything. It was a small wedding, but it was wonderful.”
The talented Brit was this year tipped for more Oscar glory for his transgender role in The Danish Girl, but was pipped to victory by Leonardo DiCaprio for his role in the Revenant.
He is currently starring in the upcoming Harry Potter spin-off: Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.
