BAKE Off sent Linda Rayfield packing in a drama-filled episode last night - but some reckoned she ruined her chances from the start.

The cheery 61-year-old opened the show by delivering what many believed was the "kiss of death" by insisting it was her week to shine.

She said: "It's Pastry Week. This is the week I wanted as I know I can do pastry."

But one fan warned: "Kiss of death at the beginning saying 'pastry is my week'! We all knew it was going to be bye bye Linda."

Many agreed she had tempted fate with the comments, with judge Prue Leith announcing she had a "terrible week".

Poor Linda's caged gypsy tart failed to rise - crowning a disastrous episode for the fan favourite.

Her technical challenge was no better, with Linda serving up a line-up of eclairs containing no cream.

And her pasties failed to go to plan either, being considered samosas instead.

However, Linda was cheerful in defeat, saying: "I can't really be sad, I've been like a child at Disneyland really.

"It's been amazing, one of the highlights of my life. I am so proud of myself. Pastry was supposed to be my week, but hey ho."

One fan wrote: "I’m so sad she’s gone, especially considering that she was really looking forward to this week."

Another said: "Awww I'm so sad to see Linda go, she knows her stuff but had a rubbish week."

A third wailed: "Linda is like the ‘fun’ Auntie who sneaks you a double Voddy in the pub when you’re 15. All my favourites are going, and I can’t cope."

Laura Adlington, a 31-year-old digital manager from Kent, was crowned Star Baker this week.
