Brit Award winner Mabel strikes up unlikely romance with US actor Rome Flynn – who’s 5,000 miles away
THEY say absence makes the heart grow fonder, so it’s no wonder MABEL is smitten with her new boyfriend – he’s 5,400 miles away.
I can reveal the Brit Award winner has struck up an unlikely romance with US actor Rome Flynn, despite her living in London and him in Los Angeles.
The couple have secretly been in a long-distance relationship for several months but the Don’t Call Me Up singer has been unable to see him due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.
Dad-of-one Rome, best known for starring in the US TV legal thriller How To Get Away With Murder, has impressed Mabel with several romantic gestures.
He sent her a huge bunch of roses, which she shared a photo of on at the weekend.
A source close to the singer said: “Mabel has been won over by Rome, who she thinks is gorgeous, but also a really sweet guy.
“They have known each other for a while but obviously the circumstances are really strange.
“Being in a relationship and not being able to see each other isn’t ideal.
But they are talking all the time and he’s made her smile so they’re just going to see how things go.
“They’re hoping it won’t be too much longer before they can see each other in real life.”
Rome is Mabel’s first love interest since she burst on to the music scene three years ago, although she has previously admitted her 2019 hit Don’t Call Me Up was about having her heart broken in 2017.
Mabel, the daughter of 1990s singer Neneh Cherry, released the song Boyfriend in February, having said last year: “I love writing about love.
"So some time soon a new relationship would be great for some inspiration for my next album.
“But there is no time to even meet people. I’m super-focused right now on what it is that I want, and it (a relationship) is distracting.
“I also tend to go for the bad ones, so I need to keep my head above water.”
I’m expecting Mabel to have come up with plenty of tunes in the past few months then.
