Noel Gallagher is recording a song for his idol John Lennon to feature on a new album dedicated to the Beatles legend
NOEL Gallagher is hitting the studio to write a song for his idol John Lennon.
The Beatles legend is being honoured by son Sean who is putting together an album dedicated to his murdered dad.
The LP will be released to mark the 80th anniversary of his birth in Liverpool.
Noel is working on the song in London’s Tileyard studios.
A source said: “Sean wanted Noel on board because of his love of The Beatles and John and also in recognition of the massive impact he’s had on the UK music scene over the last decades.”
Noel wrote the Oasis smash ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’ and used a John Lennon conversation, recorded in his New York apartment just before he died in 1980, for part of the lyrics.
The words were, roughly, “and then they’ll tell ye your brains have gone to your head.” That stuck with Noel and is why the chords to Imagine play at the beginning of the song.
Noel posted a shot of himself singing a song from John’s 1973 debut solo album Mind Games to mark the anniversary of his birth on October 9.
Sean has also interviewed Sir Paul McCartney about his relationship with his father.
“I look back on it now like a fan,” Sir Paul said of meeting Lennon.
“How lucky was I to meet this strange Teddy Boy off the bus, who played music like I did and we get together and boy, we complemented each other!”
The discussion was part of a special two-part Radio 2 programme, John Lennon at 80, which aired last week.
The documentary also featured interviews with Sean's half-brother, Julian, and his godfather Sir Elton John.
The star was shot dead outside his apartment on 8 December 1980, and last month it emerged that his killer, Mark Chapman, had apologised to Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, at a parole hearing in August.

“I just want to reiterate that I'm sorry for my crime,” Chapman told the parole board at the Wende Correctional Facility in New York.
“It was an extremely selfish act.
"I'm sorry for the pain that I caused to her [Ono]. I think about it all of the time.”
