WHEN Donald Fear scooped the jackpot on Who Wants to be a Millionaire? he must have expected a few begging letters.

But the brainbox from Telford, Shrops, was stunned by the deluge of requests for money he’s received from around the world.

Donald took home the seven-figure cheque after easily whizzing through the questions posed by the ITV show’s quizmaster Jeremy Clarkson.

Now the teacher, who is quitting his job at the end of the school term, has taken to social media to reveal that it has led to an awkward situation with old acquaintances.

Donald wrote: “Found a really weird begging letter (20,000 euros) from France in my pigeon-hole this morning (in addition to the 20 or 30 I’ve received via DMs on here).

“There are downsides to this win!”

And he added: “Now I’ve discovered that there is a ‘spam’ folder in Messenger.

“It contains 132 messages, including ones from old friends I’d lost touch with years ago.

“We’re talking primary school in Prestwich, first year at university, etc, as well as offers to go on BBC Breakfast, Sky News breakfast programme, Radio 5 Live as well as dozens of dodgy messages.”

The “old friends” and randoms must have heard that Donald only planned to spend some of his million quid, on buying a motorhome to go travelling to the Outer Hebrides.

But they clearly forgot that he also said he was going to give most of the money away to his family, who have been hard hit by the Covid lockdown.

It sounds like Donald will respond to the beggars with the same speed and certainty he answered those 15 questions on Millionaire.

The 2008 X Factor winner will be aiming to impress judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood alongside Stacey Dooley, who won Strictly in 2018 with dance partner and now boyfriend Kevin Clifton.

The Celeb Bake Offs are staged to help C4’s Stand Up To Cancer campaign, which has raked in £62million over the years to fund medical trials and help patients.

Let’s hope Alexandra and Stacey are as good at whisking as they are waltzing.
