The firm’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division specially adapted nine iconic Defenders so they could cope with snowy Alpine conditions in Austria for the filming of Spectre – starring Daniel Craig as Bond.

They employed custom specialists Bowler to upgrade the engines, fit roll cages, add bigger wheels and tyres and give them a sinister-looking paint job.

The motors were used by villains from Spectre – the criminal organisation first headed by Blofeld in 1962 movie Dr No.

And when bosses needed a tenth vehicle, they adapted one that had already been used in Skyfall.

The seller, from Leek, Staffs, told buyers: “As luck would have it, in a corner of SVO's busy engineering workshop sat a forgotten piece of film history: the one remaining Stornoway Grey Metallic Defender 110 that 007's field agent Eve, played by Naomie Harris, had driven in the preceding Bond movie, Skyfall.

“So chassis number '797848' was upgraded to 'Spectre' specification by Land Rover SVO and pressed into action once more, though on this occasion on the side of the villains.

“This decision makes '797848' unique as the only Land Rover to have appeared in two consecutive Bond films.
