Kate Garraway reveals husband Derek Draper had a ‘tough week’ but remains optimistic as Gordon Brown praises her bravery

KATE Garraway has revealed her comatose husband Derek Draper has had a "tough week" in hospital.

The 53-year-old looked visibly upset as she updated Good Morning Britain viewers on his coronavirus recovery.

The emotional moment came as former Prime Minister Gordon Brown praised her bravery amid the political adviser's devastating health battle.

Touched by his kind words, Kate said: "Thank you for all of your support.

"It has been a tough week actually for Derek.

"It has been a tough week, but it is Friday and we look forward."

As Kate fell quiet, her co-host Ben Shepherd added: ";We keep smiling."

Kate looked as though she had been caught off guard when the politician reached out about Derek.

Gordon told her on the show: "Kate, my very best wishes to you and to Derek, as always.

"I know how brave you are being."

Derek was hospitalised with coronavirus in March 2020 and put into a coma in a bid to save his life.

Despite being woken up, the 53-year-old is still unable to speak, with doctors warning he may stay in his current condition.
