Wayne Rooney ‘joked about lack of sex life at Soccer Aid party’
BOOZED-up Wayne Rooney quipped about his lack of a sex life at a Soccer Aid after-party, guests claimed.
Rumours of his confession spread like wildfire at the star-studded bash, where a relaxed Rooney, 34, was sinking red wine.
Guests including Daisy Maguire, sister of Man United’s Harry, were there to celebrate the success of the Unicef charity match. Rooney, in a baseball cap and still wearing his Soccer Aid top, arrived late from his hotel room.
But gossip soon started circulating about a joke he’s said to have had made to one of the TV show runners.
A source said of Rooney, married to childhood sweetheart : “The party was in full swing and Wayne clearly enjoyed himself when he got there. He was very relaxed. One of the runners chatted to him and then went around saying she heard Wayne say he had not had sex for ages.
“She said she was unsure if he was joking or not but he probably was. She then went off and repeated it to a group of people, including members of the production and Unicef teams. Most people were laughing about it. Daisy was among a group where some people heard about it. It quickly became the talk of the event.”
Dad-of-four Rooney was drinking with guests including comedian and ex-footballers Robbie Keane and Wes Brown. The source said: “No one took it too seriously and some questioned if the runner had her wires crossed. But Wayne was being gossiped about, whatever happened.”
Coleen, 34, is embroiled in a legal fight with Jamie Vardy’s wife Rebekah. The source added of Rooney, now at Derby County after a spell in the States: “Wayne likes to party and had a glass of red with him most of the night. But he deserved the chance to relax as he had played a key role in a huge charity event.
“He has also had a lot to contend with recently — moving back to the UK and the situation with Coleen and Becky Vardy.”
Another source last night insisted that Wayne did not make the comment. In the charity match at Old Trafford this month, Rooney’s England were beaten on penalties by the World XI.
It raised more than £9.3million for Unicef, which will help children affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Afterwards, organisers arranged a socially distanced gathering at the Mottram Hall hotel, Cheshire.
About 70 people, including players, coaches, production team members and Unicef staff, arrived at the event at about 12.30am. The insider said: “The party was really relaxed — with everyone letting their hair down.
“Wayne was down from his room at around 2am to join everyone. He was still wearing his Soccer Aid shirt but had changed into trousers and trainers and was wearing a cap. He drank red wine and seemed to be having a great time chatting with various members of the teams.”
Irish singer Dermot Kennedy, who played for the World XI, did an impromptu set at around 3am. While many stayed, Rooney and others, including Doctor Who actor Bradley Walsh and former England boss , moved to a smaller bar near reception.
The source said: “The party was just getting going when Dermot got out his guitar and started singing. Bradley and Sam didn’t seem to enjoy it so they moved out to the smaller bar. Wayne, with Wes and Robbie, followed. The runner said she was talking to Wayne away from the group when he made the comments. She said he just came out with it.
“She was one of the last lot standing with Wayne, who was there for several hours. But it was before the season began so he was entitled to enjoy himself.”
Rooney is now a player-coach at Championship side Derby County after returning from Washington’s DC United. Coleen was said to be furious at him partying with women across the Atlantic.
In February last year, we told of his boozy night out with barmaid Vicki Rosiek after a Florida training camp. In September 2017, Rooney was arrested near his Cheshire home for drink-driving while at the wheel of party-girl Laura Simpson’s car. The player, later banned from driving for two years, met her at a bar in Wilmslow.

Rooney appears to have curbed his partying since moving back to Cheshire. In June, he and Coleen celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary, with Rooney posting: “Love you always.”

The couple also post regular family pictures with their sons, Kai, ten, Klay, seven, Kit, four and two-year-old Cass. Coleen is facing a High Court showdown with Rebekah, who is alleged to have leaked stories about her from her Instagram account. Rebekah denies the claims.
Coleen has said of her decision to stay with her hubby: “I am not stupid, I know my own mind and it’s something I want to try and work on.”
