Coronation Street’s Jack P. Shepherd shows off results of second hair transplant in a year
CORONATION Street star Jack P. Shepherd has showcased his new-improved locks after a SECOND transplant.
has undergone not one, but two hair transplants within a year and the results look impressive.
The 32-year-old underwent the procedure after noticing his hair was falling out due to stress.
The soap star revealed: "I had to do it for my own personal happiness - losing your hair is devastating.”
The actor, who plays David Platt in the soap, added: “I have been through all sorts of traumas on-screen in Corrie but going bald really hit me for six. I’m so glad I have got it sorted.
“I have been suffering from quite rapid hair loss similar to Wayne Rooney and I knew that the only way I was going to get it sorted was with another operation.
“I really hope that this will fix the problem for good because, as an actor, it is vital that I keep hold of my hair."
Jack said: “I know some people will say that I am being incredibly vain having a second hair transplant so quickly after the first one.
“All I can say to that was that I needed to do it for my long-term mental well-being. I have been in Corrie for 20 years now - ever since I was 12.
“I know I have been incredibly lucky and love working with such a fantastic group of actors but the relentless schedules take their toll on your mental health, particularly when you have been through as much trauma as David Platt.
“People pick over your appearance on social media every day and some of those comments really hurt.
“I had always been self-conscious about my hair because I am losing it right at the front of the scalp where it is most visible.
“I knew I would be so much happier if I had this second operation to get the problem sorted for good.
“I am lucky to have such a close relationship with a brilliant surgeon in Asim Shahmalak, who is renowned throughout the world.
“You read about fellas going to Turkey, but I would never risk my health in that way.
“It is far safer to go to a clinic in the UK where the regulations are much stricter and the surgeons are far more skilled."
Jack's second procedure happened months before the Covid lockdown restrictions were in place.
He said: "I had the operation in December when no one had even heard of Covid and there was no social distancing.
"Over the last nine months, it has been wonderful watching the new hair grow back. I now have a full head of hair for the first time since I was a teenager.
"I know many people have been to hell and back over Covid over the last six months and my heart goes out to anyone who has suffered through this crisis.
"I appreciate that an actor's hair loss is no big deal in the grand scheme of things, but it was important for me to get this help."
Jack had more than 3,000 hairs implanted into the front of his scalp by surgeon Dr Asim Shahmalak at Crown Clinic in Manchester.
The soap favourite can be seen showing the difference between the start of treatment and the progression.
The actor, who has played David Platt on Corrie since 2000, previously posted on Twitter: "9 months it’s been since my hair transplant.
"I decided to get one as my hair was falling out and it was affecting my mental health to the point where I considered giving up acting and not being in the public eye."
He had previously said how issues in his personal life caused stress related hair loss forcing him to take action.
The actor said in a candid post on Instagram: "I could see the difference when I watched myself on screen and when I was travelling in a lift and the mirror would highlight my hair loss.
"A few of the make-up girls at Corrie suggested that I should have it done and I have talked it through with a few people at work.
"My hair loss has definitely accelerated in the last year. I have had a few personal issues off-screen which have been stressful and I am also an insomniac which just adds to my stress levels."
He added: "It is such a common thing for guys to have now - like a male version of the boob job.
"I decided to have it done because my hair loss has really escalated in the last year, particularly at the front of my scalp.
"I remember seeing myself on screen and thinking, 'Oh my God, it is really falling out.
"One of my mates had a transplant and he looked so much better afterwards that I didn't recognise him.
"I was blown away by the improvement and he told me he wished he had done it earlier.
"I thought if I am going to do it, I should act now so that I can get the benefits for longer.
"I want to get my hair back to what it was like before so that I can style it at the front any way that I like."
He joked at the end of his post: "It would great to be in a position to have an Elvis quiff and really have some fun with my hair."
Last month, Jack gave Corrie viewers a look inside the Manchester home he shares with girlfriend Hanni.
