But November’s Season Four release will not sit well with Prince William after brother Harry and his wife Meghan signed a £112million deal with the streaming giant.

In episodes dealing with Diana’s crumbling marriage to Prince Charles, actress Emma Corrin, 24, will be seen gorging on food before vomiting into a toilet.

A TV insider said: “William and other senior royals are incredibly uncomfortable about this drama and livid Harry is now in partnership with the company that’s airing it.

“It’s the latest in a long line of flashpoints between the brothers, but there are few more sensitive subjects than the plight of their mother.

“Viewers of The Crown — which is a candid look at the Queen’s reign — wouldn’t expect the writers to ignore something which is now a matter of public record.

“But the Royal Family also wouldn’t expect one of their own to take money made by the profits of shows like this.”

Harry, 35, and wife Meghan, 39, this month signed  the megabucks deal with Netflix to create programmes through their newly- established production company.

But days later it was revealed in a Sun front page that Netflix were also set to air a tacky musical about the princess called Diana: A New Musical.

The £112million Meghan and Harry deal is part of their bid to become financially independent after stepping back from their roles as senior royals this year.

But the Windsors have a long-running grudge against The Crown over its no-holds-barred portrayal of their family.

Last year’s launch of Sir David Attenborough’s Netflix nature show, Our Planet, was attended by Prince Charles, 71, and his two sons — but cast members of The Crown were apparently prevented from attending.

Those missing out included Josh O’Connor, 30, who plays the Prince of Wales in the fourth series, as well as Olivia Colman, 46, and Helena Bonham Carter, 54, who play the Queen and Princess Margaret respectively.

Diana’s bulimia is a well- documented ailment she struggled with for years — but delving into her eating disorder in a drama aired to more than 190million global subscribers is a disturbing prospect.

A spokesman for Left Bank Pictures, which makes The Crown for Netflix, said: “Producers worked closely with the eating disorder charity, BEAT, to ensure that their portrayal of Princess Diana’s bulimia in Season Four was both accurate to the disorder and sensitively handled.”
