WHO Wants To Be A Millionaire? fans were stunned last night when a player called his wife for Phone a Friend and another man answered.

Jeremy Clarkson was shocked when he dialled JP Hogan's home to help him with a question about German and a man's voice came on the line.

The 60-year-old host said: "That was another man just answered your phone. Relax, relax, it could be completely innocent."

JP was seen looking around the show's set, apparently confused by what was going on.

Viewers were intrigued, with one tweeting: "How awkward, phoning his wife for the phone a friend and a man answering... has an affair been exposed?"

Another howled: "Man uses his phone a friend, phones his wife and some dude answers 😂😂😂😂 awkward!!"

Teacher JP was stuck on the £16,000 question: "Which of these days is part of the weekend in Germany?"

He was left puzzling over the options - A. Donnerstag, B. Mittwoch, C. Sonntag, or D. Dienstag - and called his wife.

The player explained: "My wife's auntie has lived in Germany for over 50 years, my wife's been there a few times.

"My wife, who at different times would probably have been in the audience, is at home as one of my Phone a Friends."

In the end he and Elizabeth correctly identified "Sonntag" - which is Sunday in German - as the answer.

However, the mystery of who the man was never got explained, though some viewers said it was a recorded message from the wife's network.

JP continued to storm up Millionaire's cash mountain, leaving the show with a very respectable £64,000.

Things get more serious tonight when the first £1million jackpot winner in 14 years is crowned on the show.

The ITV quiz will hand over the £1million cheque to its sixth jackpot winner, who races to the top prize in record time.
