Kate Garraway ‘doesn’t know what’s round the corner’ with ill husband Derek’s ‘horrific’ ordeal, says Charlotte Hawkins
KATE Garraway's Good Morning Britain co-star Charlotte Hawkins has said she "doesn't know what's round the corner" for her ill husband.
Charlotte opened up about brave Kate's struggle behind the scenes after Derek Draper contracted coronavirus back in March.
The 53-year-old, who shares daughter Darcey, 14, and son Billy, 11, with Kate, remains in hospital with his wife admitting his recovery is "a waiting game".
"It’s been horrific for her and her family," Charlotte, 45, told OK! Magazine.
"She's been going through such a tough time and she's continuing to go through a tough time.
"We don't know what's around the corner.
"Everybody at GMB is there for her in whatever way she needs."
Kate, 53, is currently on a break from presenting duties on Good Morning Britain.
In an emotional sign-off to viewers ten days ago, the presenter thanked viewers and her ITV colleagues for their support during the "challenging" time.
"I'm actually not here next week," Kate revealed.
"I'm taking a little bit of time off to help Billy get sorted for secondary school and Darcey as well to get into school and also - Derek, to look after things on that.
"I just want to say thank you all of you for being absolutely brilliant since I've come back through challenging times.
"To everyone here, all the people on-screen and off-screen, you've been amazing.
"One of the nice things is that everybody talks about ITV and television being a brutal business - but it's not.
"It's a proper family. You've all been amazing."
