HIS TWO SPENCE

Piers Morgan’s son Spencer reveals he heard thieves outside his bedroom door but assumed it was family in ‘intense’ raid

PIERS Morgan's son Spencer has revealed that he heard thieves outside his bedroom door but assumed it was a relative as the family were robbed while they slept last week.

On Monday, Piers' wife Celia told how their holiday home had been targeted in a terrifying raid on the final night of their St. Tropez break.

Taking to Twitter after the news broke, 27-year-old Spencer branded the robbers "rats"; as he opened up about the scary ordeal.

Sharing a news article about the burglary, Spencer wrote: "Heard the rats outside my room. Pretty intense."

He then added: "Assumed it was one of the family up early."

Spencer's brother Bertie, 19, and eight-year-old sister Elise were also at the holiday home during the raid, while it's thought that Piers' middle son - 23-year-old Stanley - had already returned to the UK.

Writing in her article, 44-year-old Celia reflected on the treasured items that had been taken - and how painful having her "memories trampled over" has been.

One of them was an art deco ring that Piers, who Celia has been married to for 10 years, bought her as a fifth wedding anniversary gift.

She explained: "The jewellery part did sting. It still stings now, almost a week on.

"The art deco ring my husband had bought me for our fifth wedding anniversary; the vintage Pucci cuff I’d picked up a flea market in LA; those earrings I’d bought from Alfies Antique Market on the Edgware Road when my first book advance came through: every last piece I had with me was gone, none of it of great value, all of it irreplaceable."

Elsewhere, the journalist described getting up at 6.15am to prepare to check out of the villa, which the family had been sure to tidy the night before.

She wrote: "The previous night had been spent getting our rented house ready for ‘check-out’ – but the place was a mess.

"My handbag was upside-down on the sofa, the box I keep my jewellery in lying empty beside it."

French police later told the couple that the intruder had been in the home only 15 minutes earlier.

Celia said she then had a realisation that made her "feel sick", explaining: "The up-turned handbag found in the sitting room had originally been on a chair in our bedroom.

"They must have crept in there and stood inches away from us while we slept."

Police also said that they see upticks in burglaries on the French Riviera over summer as criminals come to the region to "do the season".

Other celebrities to have been targeted in the past while holidaying in the area include Trinny Woodall, Patrick Viera, and Richard Hammond.
