Taylor, 26, wanted a long-term future with Calvin, 32, including living together and even starting a family.

Sources close to Calvin, real name Adam Wiles, insist he was “in love” with Taylor but sees his dance music career as his priority.

Last night a pal said: “Taylor ended things as she could feel their relationship wasn’t heading in the right direction.

“She discovered that they were on different paths in the last few weeks.

“It wasn’t that they weren’t happy, but when she began raising the subject of their future it became clear they were not wanting the same thing at the same time.

“He absolutely adored their time together, but being a devoted boyfriend is difficult to fit in with being the biggest DJ on the planet.

“He also loved having his own home in LA, and didn’t want to move in full time together. He loved his own space.

“Taylor is heartbroken. But it could have been a lot worse if they were in this position in another 15 months.

“She always saw herself as a young mum. It’s not that she’s in a rush to settle down or anything. But she also doesn’t want to waste time either.”

The couple, said to be worth a combined £101million got together at the Brit Awards in 2015 after being introduced by mutual pal Ellie Goulding.

Taylor was said to have planned her next three years working around his music releases and tour plans.

By contrast, Calvin, whose exes include British singer Rita Ora, 25, felt happy “living in the moment”.

Shake It Off singer Taylor’s highly anticipated sixth studio album is now expected to feature songs about the split.

Her record-breaking last album 1989 dealt with splits from One Direction star Harry Styles and actor Jake Gyllenhaal.

Our source said: “She’s at her best when she’s feeling angry, upset or let down, so the only people happy about the split will be her record company.”

Deidre says

— OUR agony aunt Deidre Sanders answers the fears and doubts that could be going through Taylor and Calvin’s heads.

I need commitment

DEAR DEIDRE
I HAVE just ended it with my boyfriend of 15 months because he wouldn’t commit to our relationship.
He’s 32, I’m 26 and have spent years in casual relationships. This one felt like it might go somewhere.
Our schedules didn’t afford us much quality time and I feel especially awful as he was recently in a car crash. Was I right to end it?
DEIDRE SAYS: Taylor, I applaud you being so decisive. He’s not shaped up, so out with him.
Having achieved so much so young, it’s not surprising you were ready for serious commitment.
Sadly, his generation is full of boys who struggle to grow up.
Your heart will ache for a while, just try not to build that wall around your heart too high.

Why rush things?

DEAR DEIDRE
MY girlfriend just dumped me after 15 great months together.
She’s in the public eye but we had so much fun — or so I thought. She says she can’t be with me because I won’t commit, which I assume means I won’t propose.
I didn’t see the rush. I’m only 32. Why do things have to become so serious? Was I stupid to let her go?
DEIDRE SAYS: Calvin, so you’ve lost one of the most talented, beautiful and famous girls in the world — or thrown her away.
You’re right to be wary of tying yourself down if you’re not ready, but is a string of casual girlfriends really what you want?
If you’re having second thoughts about being wary of commitment, she may still listen, for now.
