Holby City fans confused as John Barrowman makes debut on the show with a Scottish accent
HOLBY City fans were left confused as John Barrowman makes his debut on the show with a Scottish accent.
The actor, 53, turned up in the very first scene of Tuesday's episode of the BBC doctor soap as Dr Drew Nicholson-Heath.
However, instead of the usual American accent, John was sporting a Scottish one.
This confused Holby City fans, who took to Twitter to ask why he was putting it on.
One person said: "I'm confused by his ever changing accent #Holby #HolbyCity"
Another added: "Barrowman’s Scottish accent though! #Holby #HolbyTuesday"
A third remarked: "Waited an extra half hour for #HolbyCity just to be unsettled by John Barrowman's accent"
However, what the fans don't know is John is actually from Scotland - and originally had the accent as a kid.
When his family moved to the US, his accent changed along with it.
The Dancing On Ice judge is playing Ange Godard's ex, who is known as the "poacher".
This is because he steals talented surgeons from NHS hospitals to work in a private hospital - for a finder's fee.
Throughout the episode, Cam is desperate to impress him, with his eyes seemingly on a bigger prize.
He is confident he can win him over and tries to curry favour newbie Drew Nicholson-Heath, busting his chops to stand out among the medics.
But his best efforts annoy savvy Drew and he makes it clear he finds him a bit of a class clown.
Sensing his tactic haven't worked on Drew, sneaky Cameron worries he could be exposed and makes a plan to throw someone under the bus and get ahead.
He notices Drew eyeing up his friend and flatmate Nicky for a position in Dubai.
His dark side emerges when he spots an opportunity to gaslight Nicky into thinking she made a mistake in theatre.
