KATE Garraway has revealed she is keeping a diary for her unconscious husband Derek to help his "overstretched" doctors.
The 53-year-old said she wants to help staff "get to know" her husband, who has spent four months in intensive care in a coma.
Although he has started to open his eyes, Derek remains in and out of consciousness.
Taking inspiration from writer Michael Rosen - a coronavirus survivor who appeared on Good Morning Britain today - Kate has started documenting Derek's journey.
Michael explained: "The nurses who looked after me wrote little diary entries and letters to me when they came off duty.
"There are pages of accounts of what they saw me in the state I was in. It is so moving and incredible, it's wonderful."
Touched by the nurses' thoughtful work, Kate revealed: "Michael, the team around you that started a journal for you is something I've started with Derek.
"In the early stages the team were just so focused on medical life or death, there wasn't a second, because they were so overstretched, to do something like that.
"Now I've started it I've found it really helpful as a relative.
"Because staff change, for them to come back and look at things from the day before helps them to know the patient who is in a state of unconsciousness.
"It's a wonderful idea and it's wonderful you've got that."
Michael was hours from death as his organs began to fail when Covid-19 attacked his body.
