Before the credits rolled, 58-year-old Phil reassured viewers that they will be in good hands, with Eamonn and Ruth taking over as the main presenters.

The married couple usually present the show on Fridays, but they will now take over the Monday - Thursday episodes.

Guest presenters will subsequently fill in on Fridays, although who they will be is yet to be confirmed.

Rochelle and Marvin Humes, Rylan Clark-Neal, and Davina McCall are among the big names to have presented the show in the past.

And Holly and Phil have made sure that their replacements had plenty of time to relax ahead of their four-day weeks, presenting today's episode of the show even though it's a Friday.

The pair were in high spirits as they excitedly counted down to their summer, with Holly referring to the day as their "last day of term".

The presenting duo scoffed ice cream and downed wine in a light-hearted final episode, signing off with an emotional montage of their best moments throughout the year.

The most poignant scenes in the video were undoubtedly the moment that Phil came out as gay live on air earlier this year, as well as Alison breaking down in tears as she emotionally discussed her experiences with racism and the Black Lives Matter movement.

Phil thanked the crew for all of their hard work just before the credits rolled - which is when he told fans that Ruth and Eamonn will be on their screens on Monday.

Holly and Phil will return in September following their lengthy break away from the studio.

Holly was left seething earlier today after Bernie Ecclestone's controversial remarks about women on This Morning.

The former F1 boss was slammed after admitting that he won't change nappies or do night feeds because "that's what wives are for".

And his comments left This Morning host Holly wincing after what social media users described as a "car crash interview".
