To whet the fans' appetite, Amazon Studios made the announcement on Twitter on Thursday (July 2), sharing a short clip for the new series.

The creative duo issued a joint statement which read: "Fallout is one of the greatest game series of all time.

"Each chapter of this insanely imaginative story has cost us countless hours we could have spent with family and friends. So we're incredibly excited to partner with Todd Howard and the rest of the brilliant lunatics at Bethesda to bring this massive, subversive, and darkly funny universe to life with Amazon Studios."

The first game in the Fallout franchise was released in 1997 and are set in a 1940s vision of what the future looks like, which includes lots of robots and gadgets and America has been left in ruins due to a nuclear war.

The games are set in a radioactive wasteland with various members of the population only being able to survive by sheltering in underground vaults.

Chief Operating Officer and Co-Head of Television at Amazon Studios Albert Cheng said: "Fallout is an iconic global franchise, with legions of fans worldwide and a rich, deeply compelling storyline that powers it. And Jonah and Lisa are the perfect storytellers to bring this series to life."

He added: "We're thrilled to join with Bethesda to bring Fallout to television."

Speaking of Westworld, it will return next year for season 4, kicking off in the wake of Delos' downfall.

In a chilling post-credits scene at the end of the season 3 finale we learned that Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson) had survived, at least in host form, and was joined with an android verison of The Man in Black.

Now director Denise Thé has teased what's in store for Hale when the show returns in 2021.

She told : “You see her in a whole new light. Will she pick up the mantle of being host supreme?

"Does she have that glimmer of humanity in her that she developed with her family? That’s the fun of going on the ride next year.”
