Michael Strahan’s GMA morning show with Keke Palmer and Sara Haines ‘canceled by ABC’ despite ‘solid ratings’
MICHAEL Strahan’s GMA morning show with Keke Palmer and Sara Haines has reportedly been canceled by ABC.
The Emmy-nominated program is being axed after less than two years on-the-air, according to .
"Strahan, Sara and Keke is put on hiatus and it doesn’t look like it’s going to come off,” an insider told the outlet.
Although a reason for its cancellation has not yet been announced, it appears ratings were not a major factor.
“Everyone was feeling good about their show. It was nominated for three Daytime Emmys.
“It finally found its rhythm. Ratings were stabilized and were starting to tick up when they went off-air,” the informant added.
The series was nominated for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show, and Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Hosts at the Daytime Emmys this year.
In March, the show announced it would take a break and was replaced with daily report, Pandemic: What You Need to Know.
However, the temporary show proved to be such a success, it is reportedly permanently taking the place of Strahan, Sara and Keke.
The source continued: “It was initially supposed to be a two-week experiment and the show did really well.”
In order to include other news topics, the show eventually changed to its current name, GMA 3: What You Need to Know.
The outlet said that the vacant time slot will be replaced with the new informational series.
According to the source, production staffers on Strahan, Sara and Keke will now work on GMA 3 as well as other ABC news programs.
“Everyone is still getting paid. There’s space for everyone. They’re actively in contact… They’re figuring out what the future will look like,” the source said.
An ABC spokesperson told the website: “We’re proud of our teams at ‘SSK’ and ‘GMA3’ and how quickly they transitioned to producing a daily show to give people the news and information they need during an unprecedented pandemic.
“And conversations continue about how the show will evolve in the months ahead.”
The show debuted on September 10, 2018 with co-anchors Michael, 48, and Sara, 42.
However, in a bid to attract younger viewers, Keke, 26, was added onto the team last year, which also resulted in the show title changing to include her.
Former NFL star Michael came onto GMA in 2016 after previously co-hosting Live with .
