Inside Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s VERY unconventional marriage as singer claims he got blessing to have affair
THEY have been rumoured for years to be in an open relationship — and now a little-known singer claims Will Smith gave his blessing for him to have an affair with his wife Jada.
August Alsina says he “deeply loved” the actress and was introduced to the couple by their son Jaden in 2015.
Jada Pinkett Smith, 48, and Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It hitmaker Will, 51, strongly denied the relationship took place, saying the claim was “absolutely not true”.
But with the Hollywood power couple previously admitting they no longer refer to themselves as “husband and wife”, can they still claim there is “just the two of us” in their marriage?
August, 27, said: “I sat down with Will and had a conversation, due to the transformation from their marriage to life partnership that they’ve spoken on several times, and it, you know, not involving romanticism.
“He gave me his blessing. I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really, deeply loved and have a ton of love for her.”
The R&B singer attended the 2017 Black Entertainment Television awards in LA with Jada.
And last year the lyrics to his track Nunya hinted something was going on — but he denied it at the time.
He sings: “You got me feeling like it was an act, you’re just an actress. Putting on a show ’cause you don’t want the world to know.”
He changed his stance while promoting his new album, explaining: “Contrary to what people may believe, I am not a troublemaker. I don’t like drama. Drama actually makes me nauseous.
“And I also don’t think that it is ever important for people to know what I do, who I sleep with, who I date.
"But in this instance it is very different because there are so many people that are side-eyeing me, looking at me questionable.
“I have lost money, friendships, relationships behind it and I think it is because people don’t necessarily know the truth. But I have never done anything wrong.”
He said of the Smiths: “I love those people literally like my family. I don’t have a bad thing to say about them. They are beautiful people.
“I can die right now and be OK knowing that I fully gave myself to somebody. Some people never get that in this lifetime.”
During their 23-year marriage, both Will and Jada have given incredibly open interviews about their sex life, delving into topics most A-listers would avoid.
And it is their honesty that has led to speculation about their 23-year marriage.
In recent years Jada revealed she likes to watch Will’s movie sex scenes, and boasted about being intimate on film sets during “breaks” and her love of sex toys.
She also said that she and Will romped in a limo en route to the 2010 Oscars, revealing: “We started kissing passionately and the next thing I knew, well, let’s say we missed the red carpet and I ended up with almost no make-up on.”
The Matrix Reloaded actress has always said her marriage with husband Will has never been “conventional” and even the word “wife” gave her the shivers, comparing it to a “golden cage”.
She added: “Even before I was married, I was like, ‘That’ll kill me’. And it damn near did.”
For that reason, they now refer to each other as “life partners”.
The couple met in 1994 on the set of the Fresh Prince Of Bel Air, the US sitcom that catapulted Will to superstardom.
Jada unsuccessfully auditioned for the role of Will’s love interest, but she got the real thing shortly afterwards.
At the time, the Independence Day star was married to entrepreneur Sheree Zampino, the mother of his son Trey, 27.
And it was during a night out with his first wife that he realised he and Jada were meant to be.
He recalled: “That night me and Sheree went to dinner, and I sat down with Sheree, and it was one of the most bizarre emotions I ever had.
“We were at The Palm and I remember I had to get up from dinner when I had a realisation that I wasn’t with the person I was supposed to be with.”
Will and Jada tied the knot in 1997 and went on to have son Jaden, 21, and daughter Willow, 19, who have both gone on to have careers in music and film like their parents.
But the image of the tight family unit they like to project on the red carpet has jarred with the rumours of their open marriage, which started circulating in 2005.
During a brutally honest interview that suggested they were no normal Hollywood couple, Will hinted that the pair were allowed to sleep with other people — just as long as the other gave them the green light.
He said: “Our perspective is, you don’t avoid what’s natural. You’re going to be attracted to people.
“In our marriage vows, we didn’t say ‘forsaking all others’.
“The vow that we made was that you will never hear that I did something after the fact.
“If it came down to it, then one can say to the other, ‘Look, I need to have sex with somebody.
“I’m not going to if you don’t approve of it — but please approve of it’.”
In 2011, the couple’s alleged free spirit approach in the bedroom made headlines again, when Jada was rumoured to be having a fling with singer Marc Anthony, then married to superstar singer Jennifer Lopez.
Will and Jada released a joint statement to fend off claims of the alleged romance.
They said: “Although we are reluctant to respond to these types of press reports, the rumours circulating about our relationship are completely false.
“We are still together, and our marriage is intact.” Two years later, Jada was again forced to deny she was in an open marriage.
This time she had to speak out following another loose-talking interview in which she said: “I’ve always told Will, ‘You can do whatever you want as long as you can look at yourself in the mirror and be OK’.
“Because, at the end of the day, Will is his own man. I’m here as his partner, but he is his own man.
“He has to decide who he wants to be and that’s not for me to do for him. Or vice versa.”
After the quotes sparked more rumours, Jada hit back on Facebook, saying: “Will and I BOTH can do WHATEVER we want, because we TRUST each other. This does NOT mean we have an open relationship. This means we have a GROWN one.”
Despite all the denials and insistence their marriage is super strong, the pair have previously split — and again they have been up front about it.
In 2018 Will said he briefly broke up with Jada over disagreements about daughter Willow’s pop career.
He said: “We essentially had to destroy our marriage. She was like, ‘I can’t do this any more’, and to me it was over, but divorce was never even an option.

“‘We broke up within our marriage and got back together again. We had to rebuild with new rules and something completely different.”
Their marriage may be unconventional and rarely out of the spotlight — but clearly it works for them.
