Coronation Street’s Antony Cotton brands Ikea shoppers ‘idiots’ – despite driving there to shop himself
CORONATION Street star Antony Cotton has branded Ikea shoppers 'idiots'.
The actor made the comment despite driving to the popular flat pack store to shop there himself.
Commenting on the endless queue at his local Ikea, Antony couldn't get his head round the amount of people wanting to shop as lockdown rules start to ease.
He wrote on Twitter: "Drive for 40 minutes to @IKEAUK (only because their click and collect only ever has Norwich or Aberdeen as options). Parked up. Walked past the returns queue and round to the main enterance queue…there is - no joke - about 2, 3, 4?!?! thousand people queuing, none wearing masks".
Antony, who plays Sean Tully in the ITV soap, went on: "To clarify - no I haven’t joined the queue. I was coming here for a specific product that they don’t deliver and didn’t have in the Ashton Ikea.
"Why on earth would you want to drive to Ikea to stand in a queue?! People are off their heads. No wonder there’s talk of more lockdowns".
The 44-year-old added: "I didn’t take a photograph because I’m not that guy, but I’m not exaggerating - there are 1000s of people outside.
"I bet 99% of those idiots come out with a pack of napkins and frozen box of meatballs.
"Who wants a day out at IKEA during a pandemic?! Jeez. I totally dispair (sic)."
His remarks were met with a range of responses from his followers, some who shared similar experiences and levels of disgust.

One commented: "Got to admit I despair of some of the absolute idiots out there at the moment. I can’t see the point of endless queuing when the items you require are not really essential."
While others took offence to his choice of words.
"Please don’t call people idiots, you don’t know why they are there," said one.
To which Antony responded: "Sorry, I meant to say really smart, considerate, helping to stop the pandemic by queuing at IKEA in their thousands kind of people."
Ikea stores and other non essential shops across the country were given the government go-ahead to open last month, which saw thousands queuing to be among the first to fill up their trollies.
Shoppers visiting reopened Ikea stores have to follow strict social distancing measures, and with only allow one adult and one child per household allowd inside at any one time.
An Ikea spokesperson told The Sun when they first reopened: "We’re really pleased to be welcoming our customers and co-workers back to our stores today.
"Their health and safety remains our top priority, which is why have put extensive and enhanced measures in place to create a safe and comfortable experience.
"Whilst we understand it’s frustrating for customers to face delays due to these measures, they are in place for everyone’s safety, and we’re grateful for everyone’s patience in respecting them."
