Holby City fans fear Essie and Fletch will both be killed off in tragic double death twist
HOLBY City fans are terrified Essie and Fletch will be killed off after last night’s episode saw Fletch rushed into hospital for emergency surgery amid his prostate cancer battle.
Essie, who is battling a new brain tumour, then broke down about the reality of her own health struggles after watching Fletch’s life hang in the balance.
Fletch had viewers sobbing as his daughter Evie watched on in horror as he was rushed into theatre.
Spotting Evie standing there looking distraught, Essie brought her into the staff room and comforted her over a cup of coffee.
But later, Essie’s brave facade fell and she broke down in tears to Sacha about the reality of her own cancer battle.
The emotional scenes left viewers fearing that Fletch and Essie would both be killed off as their storylines take tragic turns.
Taking to Twitter, one viewer said: "Wow, what an emotional episode..I'm a sobbing wreck...please don't let them die! Essie and Fletch ARE Holby city...Sacha won't cope..."
Another worried viewer tweeted: "If Holby kills Fletch off I shall be unhappy af.
"I think that Essie is going to cark it and I hope that they don't kill Fletch off too, it'll mean that Ange leaves as well probably."
A third added: "Caught up on Holby City and I swear to god Fletch and Essie are two of my faves if they die i'm gonna lose my sh*t."
Essie received the devastating news in April that her cancer had returned - just as Sacha planned to propose after getting her back.
Speaking about her Holby cancer storyline, actress Kaye Wragg told : “At first, Essie thought: ‘I’m going to get through this’. But because her cancer is very aggressive, she needs a very potent level of chemo, which made her very poorly.
"The side-effects really knocked her sideways, so she wanted to stop the chemo just to feel normal again. In her head, anything was better than how she was feeling at that time."
She added: "Essie needed someone to tell her not to give up – and that person was Fletch.”
Fletch was diagnosed with cancer last month after suffering from a number of concerning health issues.
