STRANGER Things might be the most popular show ever on Netflix, but like all good things must come to an end at some point.
When that moment comes it will be "bittersweet" according to star Finn Wolfhard who plays lead character Mike Wheeler.
Season four of the popular Netflix series has been put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic which has given Wheeler, 17, time to reflect on the sci-fi show's impact on his life.
The teenager also realised he will, at some point, have to say goodbye to the show.
In an interview with Variety he was asked: “When it comes to the character that so many of us know you from, how do you feel about eventually saying goodbye to Mike Wheeler?”
Wheeler said: “What I think is so great about Stranger Things is it has the Harry Potter effect — where you can see how the characters and the actors grow up over time. The character is a part of me.
“Definitely when Stranger Things ends, it is not going to feel like it didn't happen or that Mike isn't a part of me still. I think I will be ready to say goodbye but it will be bittersweet.”
But he added that the show is far from over: “But we still have a lot of work to do with Stranger Things.”
A career beyond Stranger Things is all but guaranteed for Wheeler who gave a critically acclaimed performance in the Stephen King’s It reboot.
He will also star in the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
Wheeler's reflections on Stranger Things' fate comes as his co-star David Harbour'deep, dark backstory' for his character, the 'resurrected' Jim Hopper in season four.
The character was feared dead at the end of season three of the Netflix series after he was caught in a blast trying to save the residents of Hawkins.
But a trailer for season four revealed Hopper is alive and a prisoner in a Russian jail, and now David has shared more details of what fans can expect.
Speaking to , the 45-year-old said: "I’m really excited to let people see these really deep colors in him.
"Each season we see a different side of him. Last season was… a bit wackier, and I loved playing that. "Now [in Season 4] he is painted in a bit of a darker palette; he’s able to express some of these really deep things that we’ve… hinted at with the boxes in Season 2."
As for the rest of season four outside his own storyline, David added: "It’s very epic. There are monsters and horror and scares.
"There’s also some great Indiana Jones-type action.”
However, the cast will have to wait before they can get stuck back into filming, after production was shut down earlier this year by the coronavirus pandemic.

On when he thought shooting would restart, David admitted: "We don’t really know what the future holds.
"I don’t feel like anybody knows. We’re all playing it by ear. We want to get up and running as soon as possible.”
His comments come after show bosses hinted at some major guest stars for season four, while the writers have confirmed all the scripts for the season are now complete.
Stranger Things seasons 1-3 are available to stream on Netflix.
